Review: Amy and Roger's Epic Detour

Title: Amy and Rogers Epic Detour.

Genre: Young adult/ Contempary.

Author: Morgan Matson.

Publisher: Simon and Schuster.

Summary: Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn't seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she's coming to terms with her father's death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road--diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself.

Review: They say dont judge a book by its cover and I guess when I had this book sent to me last august I kind of did. It sat on my bookshelf for months having not been read, and then the other day I just thought to myself why not give it a try. Boy that saying is so true. Because this book was beyond brilliant. Better then brilliant. I guess I never did read it because the book cover looked kinda cheesy and cliche and a light read. But this deffinetly wasnt cheesy and cliche and a light read. It went in depth and was quite powerful for a book with a pink cover. The book begins with Amy our main character who we learn right at the beginning of the book that her fathers died. Which is the whole reason her mom has decided to move to connecticut. Leaving Amy to stay at home for a month on her own, until her mom comes up with a plan for her friends son (who is Roger) to drive her all the way from California up there, since Amy had drving issues. Of course this is where the main plot comes in. And the two go on a road trip together, and go against her moms wishes and have a detour. Along the road with each other the book takes on a great friendship and understanding of both of the characters. We learn secrets from Amy (who was once a talented musical actress) and alot of secrets that Rogers been keeping hidden aswell. They take so many destinations to places I was so engrossed in the book it felt like I was road tripping with them aswell, exploring places and realising how big America actually is.

The relationship between the two was brilliant aswell. It was very well led up and made you love the chemistry they had. There was even a place in the book where I started to cry - yes - cry!The ending was fantastic and I was in love with how the book was set out with pieces of scrapbook looking parts. It made it feel even more real! This book deffinetly deserves an A+ from me, I really got into it and liked how it finished.
